Farscraps 1: A Collection of Unfinished Farscape Fan Fics
by Karolyn Gray
Rated: PG-13 or less.
Notes: Farscraps a series of unfinished fanfics that I've decided to post to the web even though they are incompletes and likely never to be continued.
Title: Not What We See
Notes: Set sometime in Season 2. Originally a sort of body-snatchers type fic, except that the aliens weren't evil, they just wanted to experience the world as other sentient species instead of their normally crystalline state. John and Aeryn just happened to get caught up. Gave up the story on the grounds that the plot was thin and the concept even thinner.
There you are! Aeryn snapped, brushing the dust from her shoulder.
A slow smile came to the human's face as his gaze shifted from the mass in front of him to look over to the former Peace Keeper. Aeryn frowned when his gaze drifted away and the smile faded.
Curious, she came further into the cave and looked him over out of the corner of her eye. His clothes were dusty, his hair a bit disheveled but otherwise he seemed normal. The only thing out of place was his unusual silence.
Following his gaze she realized the cavern they stood in was far larger than she had thought, fissures above the cavern allowing a little light from the sun to filter through to the dank cave.
It was only then did she realize the cavern was had far more illumination than the sunlight should have provided. Every where were strange crystalline structures jutting from the muddy ground. Most were marble like structures of grays and whites, but a few glistened brightly from blue crystals sending a kaleidoscope of colors across the walls. The effect was
Beautiful. Aeryn whispered in awe.
Reminds me of home. The human murmured in agreement..
The wistful tone she heard in his voice snapped Aeryn out of her reverie. Shaking her head in irritation at her own lack of discipline, she snapped Crichton's arm and pulled him towards the cave's entrance.
Come on. The others are looking for you. Crichton merely smiled and allowed her to drag him along.

It can't be helped. The Ustavi merchants will not have our supplies ready until tomorrow morning. Rygel sniffed indignantly at the glowering Luxan. I suggest we find accommodations for the evening.
And I would suggest that you spend less time boasting of your past glories and more time negotiating. D'Argo growled in reply.
Zhaan steeped between them before Rygel could reply with what would surely be a venomous retort. Gentlemen, this serves no purpose. As soon as Aeryn returns with John we should find ourselves lodgings and food for the night.
Where did those two go off to anyway? Rygel demanded. It was most rude of the to leave in the middle of my negotiations. Beside they missed the best part about my coronation ceremony.
I believe Crichton said something about discomfort from sitting too long. Chiana purred smoothly, earning an amused look from D'argo and Zhaan.
And Aeryn went to ensure John's safety. You know how he attracts trouble. Zhaan added.
Rygel nodded sagely and waved his hand in resignation. Well, at least having a former Peace Keeper amongst us has some advantages.
A soft cough brought to attention the last member of the party. D'Argo scowled at the dour looking Crais. And disadvantages.
Crais straitened his tunic, smirking at that. Well, if you are all through wasting our time here, I suggest we do as Zotoh Zhaan suggested. I'm certain Crichton and Officer Sun are capable of fending for themselves.
With that he walked past the others headed towards what appeared to be a local bar. Snorting in disgust Rygel followed the renegade Peace Keeper Captain, muttering foul epithets under his breath as he hovered along.
Zhaan sighed, starting after Crais and Rygel. Come.
Hey wait up for us!
They turned to see John Crichton and Aeryn Sun trotting towards them.
Where the Hezmana have you two been? D'Argo demanded.
Well, after escaping from another telling of the Adventures of Dominar Fluffy, I decided to check out the ruins I noticed down by the beach. John replied calmly seemingly unfazed by D'argo's foul mood.
At a loss for words, D'argo simply growled his displeasure. Zhaan interjected herself between the two men before another disagreement could arise. I'm afraid we will have to remain on the surface for the night. Rygel and Crais have gone ahead to acquire lodgings for us.
John frowned at that. Crais, huh? I thought he'd be up on Talyn by now.
Zhaan paused for a moment, surprised at the amount of venom she heard in the human's voice. While the human and Crais considered each other temporary allies and a mutual inconvenience, it had been sometime since John had shown such anger towards the renegade Peace Keeper Captain.
Smiling placatingly, Zhaan nodded. Yes. Well, the Ustavi did not give him, or us, much of a choice in the matter.
Neither did Talyn. Aeryn commented with a grin. Seeing the questioning looks she received, Aeryn shrugged apologetically. Sorry. Pilot informed me that the real reason Crais was here was Talyn desired to visit with his mother for a time.
So much for 'happy coincidences'. D'Argo muttered.
There's no such thing as coincidences. Aeryn and John chimed in together.
D'Argo shook his head at the pair grinning at each other. Come.

Laughter rumbled through the raucous crowd, loudest of all being the dark clad human male and sebacean female at the center of the disturbance. The others at the table looked unhappily at the smiling, jubilant people around them with some discomfort. Of them only Chiana seemed to be enjoying the sudden high spirits of their normally reserved former Peace Keeper and overly talkative human scientist.
She'll drink you under the table, Crichton. Chiana said with a laugh as the human was still giggling.
Yeah, right. Crichton retorted, his speech slurring as he poured himself and Aeryn another mug of their drink. Ev'ry un knows we Southern boys an drink anyone under the table.
We'll see whose under the table Crichton. Drink up. Aeryn retorted, hefting her mug.
Let's make it more interesting. John retorted with a devilish grin. One that made their shipmates look at one another with a mix of humor and trepidation. Only Crais and Rygel seemed uninterested, rolling their eyes in disgust.
Interesting? How?
A bet. Whoever finishes first, wins the bet. John replied.
Aeryn smiled, ever one to be ready for a challenge. What is your wager?
I win, I get you tonight, if you know what I mean. John replied suggestively. A howl of laughter and lewd comments erupted from the crowd gathered around their table. D'Argo simply shook his head in disbelief as he chewed the remainder of his food, while Zhaan, Chiana and Rygel gaped at the human's boldness.
And if I win? Aeryn asked raising an eyebrow.
John shrugged. Pick something.
After a moments thought Aeryn smiled predatorily causing John to swallow nervously, his grin fading slightly under her gaze. You get all the maintenance duties for Moya's amnexus system for the next weeken.
Deal. John hefted his mug. Ready?
At her nod they both looked to the bar's proprietor, who had been acting as unofficial referee in the nights revelries. At his signal the human and sebacean gulped down their drinks, many in the crowd urging one or the other on. Moments later a pair of mugs slammed back down on the table in unison.
Aeryn and John looked expectantly at a stunned barkeep, awaiting his announcement as the crowd hushed. Well, who won? John asked.
The squat alien blinked his four eyes rapidly, shaking back and forth nervously. Uh equal are you. The crowd groaned in disbelief.
What? A tie! John cried.
Impossible! I was finished a full microt before Crichton! Aeryn stammered out.
What? No way! John yelped in denial. Looking around he=is gaze quickly settled on the Zhaan with a triumphant smile. Zhaan, who finished first?
The Delvian smiled gently and shrugged, seeing no way out of answering the question. I believe that it was a tie.
No. No. Crichton finished first. Chiana countered.
Aeryn finished first. D'argo threw in, unable to help himself from joining the pointless argument when he saw Aeryn's perplexed look at Chiana's announcement.
Rygel, what do you say? Aeryn demanded.
The small royal looked at the two and snorted in disgust as he waved his hand dismissively. Oh no. Leave me out f this.
Ooh, c'mon Rygel. We need a deciding vote and you're it! John protested.
Bah! Play you silly mating games on someone else. The Hynerian spat before hovering towards the rooms they had rented.
I suppose you will have to satisfied that neither of you won your wagers against the other. Zhaan said soothingly, hoping her words would end the rather pointless argument. While mildly amusing, she knew both of her shipmates had been unusually enthusiastic in their drinking tonight and therefore not thinking as clearly as they should.
John sighed and nodded his consent. I suppose so. He lamented.
Actually I think John did win. Aeryn said suddenly, earning a whoop from those in the crowd who had won the side betting taking place.
What? D'Argo sputtered out as John looked at her in complete surprise.
Really? He asked.
Aeryn smiled, pulling him close. Yeah.
Crais scowled at the pair. Officer Sun, surely you don't intend to allow this human to .
Contaminate me all he wants. Aeryn finished before closing the short distance between her and the human for a lasting kiss. Any further comments for their erstwhile shipmates died a moment later when both stood, John tossing out a mumbled 'goodnight.' to them, and headed towards the doors that led to the pair of rooms they had rented for the night.
Once out of site Chiana turned back to the others. Well, I guess that means we get the other room. She couldn't help but laugh at the matching scowls the words elicited from D'argo and Crais.

D'Argo released a long sigh as he sat tiredly at the table beside a smiling Zhaan. Across the way he saw Crais glance at him indifferently as he sipped from a steaming mug. The former Peace Keeper Captain looked as haggard as D'argo felt. Not surprising given the events of last night.
While D'argo didn't begrudge any of his shipmates a moments respite from the constant pressure their lives as fugitives were, last night had sorely tested his patience. The sounds of pleasure coming from the neighboring room had been a near constant distraction all night for him. He almost resented the seeming indifference the others had shown, even Crais.
Good morning, D'argo. Zhaan greeted him warmly.
Good morning, Zhaan. D'Argo replied, quelling the sense of envy he had at her fresh, well rested look. Of all of them, only Rygel had shown less interest than Zhaan had in the activities of Aeryn and Crichton. Zhaan had silently meditated much of the night, oblivious.
